A much more powerful way to refer business is to say, "Is it alright if I have 'Joe' call you to
give you a phone consultation?" This is less threatening to hear than "Can I GIVE 'Joe'
YOUR number?" That sounds like my personal info is going to someone I don't know...I'm
not in control. But if I say to you, "Is it alright if I have 'Joe' call you?" Then, it sounds like
I am making 'Joe' do something for YOU, not giving Joe something of yours.
When we refer business this way, it makes us really think about who we would refer to, and
makes us accountable for follow up. This results in better communication, more authentic
referrals, and better business for all of us! Try it!
